Breaking Down the Arenado Trade

Ok I will admit, I have no idea where to start with this one. What a bizarre news dump that happened the other night. Rockies trade MVP quality 3rd baseman to the Cardinals for some prospects, etc. OH... and the Rockies gave St Louis $50 million to go along with probably the best 3rd baseman in the MLB! WTF! This does NOT add up to me or many of my readers, aka you awesome MFers.

Arenado, in his last full season (2019), was 4th in the National League in WAR. batted .315, hit 41 bombs, drove in 118 RBI, and had a high SLG% of .583. Incredible numbers. Not to mention his incredible defensive prowess, 2.0 dWAR in 2019 as well. I put all of these numbers here to say, WTF? How does an organization pay a high level player so much effing money and then ruin that relationship in less than one season? He was linked with the Nationals prior to the 60 game season and he makes as much or more money than their 3rd baseman who they let walk, Anthony Rendon. This was AFTER signing an extension for an ass ton of money with the Rockies. This appears to be a huge problem in professional sports of late. Another notable example, QB Deshaun Watson from the Texans is ready to GTFO of there (thankfully) and move on after signing a massive extension with them! Partly due to BOB and his high level of incompetence, but still! BOB is gone and he still wants to leave town!

Back to baseball, I am dreading when the Nats have to face the Cardinals in the playoffs this upcoming season because of this incredible talent they stole from Colorado. Do his numbers stay similar without being in the confines of Coors Field? We won't know but there are hitter friendly parks all around and I expect LARGE things from this guy in 2021.
